New HTC device with 1080p display and Adreno 320 GPU confirmed by the benchmark

Posted by ~ Erch ~ on Friday, July 13, 2012 | 03:06

In the last hours of the alleged indiscretions on the new HTC output devices have proliferated at a rapid pace. To complete the picture of the three new devices of which we have heard in recent hours, contributes to a new device, also revealed by the benchmark GLBenchmark. The information can be derived from the benchmark refer to a terminal characterized by a display with 1080p and the SoC Qualcomm system that integrates the new GPU Adreno 320 . The telephone operator that could initiate the distribution of the terminal is Verizon, while the model name is  HTC6435.

The data confirmed unequivocally by the benchmark refer to the presence of:
  • MSM8960 CPU, 1.5 GHz
  • Adreno 320 GPU
  • Display with a resolution of 1794 x 1080 pixels
  • Android 4.0.4

The MSM8960 CPU is the same integrated current HTC One S, but the hardware platform of the new smartphone would differ from that of HTC One S by integrating the new Adreno 320 GPU.
The hypothesis that in the past few hours have been made about the exact nature of this device have been varied: new tablet, super smartphone or expected HTC 'phablet "already become the subject of rumors in recent months .
Waiting to know some more details about it, we can only welcome the new "wave" of rumor and speculation about the new device of the Taiwan based company, who apparently is preparing to renew the library to meet the challenging second half of this year. We recall briefly the alleged new device, which currently include:
  • HTC Proto. Average low-end smartphone
  • HTC Vertex Tegra 3 tablet
  • HTC PM63100 1.7 GH z  Tegra 3 smartphone

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean uses three different layouts for different tablet sizes and smartphones

Posted by ~ Erch ~ on Thursday, July 12, 2012 | 07:43

Jelly Bean continues to give us surprises. If you thought you know everything here is that after the new Recovery Journal, now comes the third official custom Ui. It really is not a "novelty in the strict sense" because this UI is that we find on the Nexus 7. Jelly Bean will use different layouts for different tablet sizes. A Google spokesperson confirmed that 10-inch tablets will retain their landscape orientation and bottom-right notification setup even after the 4.1 upgrade. So, yes, the way Jelly Bean looks on a tablet will depend on the tablet's size; the OS adapts itself to the device in order to deliver (what Google sees as) the optimal user experience for that particular screen size.
  • Jelly Bean smartphone interface (Galaxy Nexus)
  • Jelly Bean Interface Tablet 7 (Nexus 7 and others)
  • Jelly Bean Interface Tablet 10 (similar to the current ICS Tablet)
But what changed between these interfaces? Mostly we find a different handling of the notification. Below an image that sums up the 3 different options:

As we can see while the smartphone and tablet UI is pretty much the same course with ICS use on the innovations introduced by Jelly Bean, about 7 inches Tablet new UI are created specifically to take advantage of this type of screen. Notifications are sliding downward, do not occupy the entire screen and do not get to the bottom while keeping the style of the smartphone version.
The differences do not end here of course. The same home Launcher, is different in the three versions. Smartphone in fact will have the classic layout that we saw on ICS, the same thing about 10inch  Tablet, but 7 inch version will be a mix of tablet and smartphone:

Although the Nexus 7 can not turn it horizontal and have an interface similar to smartphones, we find a greater number of icons in the bottom bar, many more lines in the home to accommodate more items and buttons on screen identical to smartphones.
A change are also the applications. Gmail for example on the smartphone does not display double column, while both of 7 inch and 10 inch Tablets 10 Jelly Bean will use divided interface:

As we see the Nexus 7 shows GMail as the Tablet 10 inch creating a real merge between the two interfaces and offering in fact a new one.
The question is if this is really confusing? It's a legitimate questions because two separate interfaces for smartphones and Tablet may already be more than sufficient for all needs. Apparently Google is focusing on segment 7 inches and wants to offer a user experience better than the one apparently you can not get with the classic 10-inch tablet interface.
As we know, changing the dpi of the system, you can see the different interfaces on their devices and smartphones to date are set to 320 dpi to 160 while the Tablet. This new interface should appear around 220 dpi, offering a real mix of the two previous alternatives.Of course it only with Jelly Bean.

Remains the resource of the community that will support a huge number of devices that do not officially pass to Android Jelly Bean!

Considering the delay, the good intentions to propose an even lower price may be all (perhaps below€400) and carve out a market segment that can be immediately competitive despite it is not a smartphone top range.

Huawei Ascend D Quad delayed due to the quad-core cpu

Posted by ~ Erch ~ on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 | 02:51

Huawei Ascend D Quad is the smartphone spotted at Mobile World Congress last year that has greatly impressed critics and audiences with excellent performances from the four-core processor combined with a particularly thin and attractive design and materials of excellent workmanship. Now it seems that the sales of the much expected smartphone  will be delayed once again and expected to be ready for sale in August/September and the reason is  the production problems of the quad-core CPU based on its proprietary Cortex A9, created and optimized by the manufacturer.

This statement issued by Chengdong Yu, Huawei's Consumer Business Group CEO.
We encountered some technical problems in the production of quad-core CPU, which consequently caused the delay in production. Huawei is working hard to solve any problem and it seems to start mass production of the device during the month of August.
This translates into actual availability of the smartphone is not the first of September, between the presentation of the new iPhone 5 , the mass arrival of the new generation of devices Windows Phone 8 and the top of the line Android HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S3 and LG Optimus 4X with already several months ahead of the market.
According to the company to reach the goal to distribute more than 60 million smartphones by 2012 has not yet faded, but the real kingmaker in the success of this device can be ruled solely by the price
In fact the recent press conference, we have seen, it seems that the manufacturer wants to bet almost anything on the Christmas market and is not excluded that Ascend D Quad may not arrive until the fall.

Winzip comes for free on Android

Winzip is a historical name in the panorama of programs for PC that has always accompanied the users in the management of zip archives. Software that has given way to more complete 7zip or other alternatives but that is still appreciated by many PC users. Now the program also comes to Android, and although app has to fight with other similar, surely he can find an excellent catchment area just for the name and fame it has.

The program allows you to open and view files. Zip even if encrypted (AES128 and AES 256) and save it to the clipboard. The program supports various formats including:
  • Photos and images (.jpg, .jpeg, .png, .bmp, .gif)
  • Text files (.rtf, .csv, .txt, .ini, .inf, .bat, .js, .log, .xml, .css, .java, .cs, .h, .m, .cpp, .c, .sql, .properties)
  • Web files (.htm, .html, .jsp, .asp)
  • Apk files (.apk)
WinZip for Android works with 3rd-party apps to open:
  • Word documents (.doc, .docx)
  • Excel spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx)
  • PowerPoint presentations (.ppt, .pptx)
  • PDF files (.pdf)

So interesting that a program is both limited by the format alone. zip archives. A limit that has also on Windows and one of the reasons for which today is abandoned for the most comprehensive programs and can handle several archives.

Rumor - Galaxy Note 2: Jelly Bean, flexible screen and 12 megapxel camera

Posted by ~ Erch ~ on Friday, June 15, 2012 | 02:07

Imagine obviously does not cost anything and as long as the rumors and news circulating on the network are taken with due caution, we can also assume very curious features. They come new speculations on the alleged fact Galaxy Note 2 that may come in autumn renewing the hardware of the current model to one year after the first, as often happens. After seeing the Galaxy S3 you could expect a similar hardware even if probably the 2GB of RAM and maybe could not fail to reach even to 1.8Ghz Exynos 5212 Dual Core processor.
To this is added, however, a new speculation concerning the one hand the operating system that could be Jelly Bean, on the other a new type of screen. Obviously, as it is easy to deduce, these are mere fantasies based on probable hypotheses. Jelly Bean could be presented at the upcoming Google I / O and get right with the new Nexus 7-inch Tablet or in 1 year after the debut of ICS. In the first case, Note 2 could also come out with Android 4.1, the second alternative is to exclude.

With regard to the screen, there is even talk of flexible display without, however, specify the shape of the hypothetical product. The theme of the flexible screen once again comes to fashion because it is one of the most anticipated innovation and Samsung has announced that it is imminent and arriving between 2012 and 2013. Speculating on Notes 2 and the flexible screen does not cost hardly anything even if we make the realistic assumption.
When Samsung will create products with special screens, probably launch a new range of products with different names yet. Do not just have to wait developments and see if something concrete and more realistic emerge in the coming months.
