Horace Dediu of Asymco has made available the data in its possession about the operating profits extracted from the eight major manufacturers of smartphones in the world in the first quarter of 2012 and from that data we can see Apple and Samsung flying high.
It seems, in fact, that Apple and Samsung together possess 99% of total industry revenue , with Apple that makes the lion's share with its significant 73%, although its share has declined slightly, compared to 75% the previous quarter. Samsung, meanwhile, has increased its share from 16% to 26%, totally demolishing all other manufacturers.
Among the eight companies taken into account, as well as Apple and Samsung, we are HTC, RIM, LG, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and Nokia. Among these, HTC holds 1% of the total profits of the market,
the other five have not been able to profit from the production of mobile handsets in Q1 2012 .
The exponential growth of Apple and Samsung at the expense of all other major producers in a market that continues to grow dramatically, registering an increasing number of worldwide sales. Just think of the total profit generated by the market, rose from $ 5.3 billion two years ago to $ 14.4 billion this year, registering an increase approaching 200% .

Will the innovations introduced by the other giants to dethrone Apple and Samsung from this position of undisputed leader , despite the recent launch of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the upcoming iPhone 5?

Based on the latest information in February and March, the Symbian platform, worldwide , would not only be able to maintain its existing market share, but would have recorded a growth of almost 2.8%, from 30.19% to 31.01% .Looking at the graph shown at the opening of StatCounter you can also note two other interesting data: the first relates to the reversal of the trend negeativo that had characterized the last months: Symbian to gain back market share, after having gradually lost in recent months. The second finding is related to the fact that in the same period were the other platforms as IOS and Android to lose ground.

A little different data regarding the European market , but in any case the growth is also present in the old continent:
The period between February and March was marked by events which have rekindled interest in the Symbian platform. First, the Mobile World Congress saw the triumph of the Nokia 808 Pure View , who won the award for best smartphone event. The choice to use as a platform used by Nokia Fine device, dictated by the current limitations of the Windows Phone platform, has produced positive effects for the mobile operating system.
Other important events are the release of Nokia Belle for the wide range of devices that were still waiting to receive him and annucio the feature pack 1 Nokia Belle . The positive trend will continue also nellle coming weeks thanks to the arrival on the market, the Nokia 808 PureView.

The data span a period covering the last 36 years of sales of the computer industry, including the Commodore 64 and Amiga, giving us an idea of what are the proportions of the success of smartphones and tablets in the last decade show that ascending segments almost vertical.

In the last year we sold 227 million Android devices against Apple's 170 million and318 million units of Windows . To specify that the data are still lacking the last quarter of 2011, however, more or less evident that in 2012 the sales of the dear old PC or notebook that will be further eclipsed by Android mobile industry to do the lion's share.
Obviously there are PC and mobile systems, are two worlds apart and yet very far away. While PC sales will decline, there is no other system today able to offer that allows a PC to do. Android is extremely flexible, large and diverse. Collect powerful hardware and the latest generation of devices, but is now too small to be really used as a PC. So it is impossible even to think of replacing your home PC with a system with an Android or Apple Tablet in many aspects. At work of course is not even conceivable in the near future.
However the expansion of the mobile industry is also impacting on sales of "PC".
