New software update 8779 in Navifirm available for Nokia Lumia 710 and Lumia 800

Posted by ~ Erch ~ on Friday, July 6, 2012 | 01:24

The deployment of MCR3 (Consumer Mango Refresh 3) or Windows Phone Tango is already on a roll for  several days now and allowed many owners of Nokia Lumia 710 and 800 to complete the update. The software platform of the two smartphones Lumia seems to be intended to receive a new update. The information is obtainable from Navifirm , the server that contains all the new firmware and software updates for the Nokia. In Navifirm has just published the new 8779 software release , which should refer to an update post-Tango (8773).
More specifically, the two new builds would be the 1750.805.8779.12221 for Lumia 800 and the 1600.3031.8779.12810 for Lumia 710 . We are still not entirely clear what changes will be introduced with this release, but we note that the new build has already been used by the community of independent developers to create new versions of custom ROM. As an example  the ROM Lumiatrix ^ 7 for the Lumia 710 , based precisely on the new build 8779.12180.

At the time the new builds are only available for versions of the Lumia 710 and 800 sold in some Asian markets.

Rumor | Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 - Development accelerates in anticipation of the launch later this year

Posted by ~ Erch ~ on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 | 00:58

After the presentation of the new major release of Windows Phone 8 and the confirmation of the top four producers who will support it (Nokia, HTC, and Samsung Huwaei), were widespread rumors that have attempted to define the time frame and the possible composition the line-up of the third generation of WP. Nokia, the leading partner of Microsoft for the development of the WP8 platform, do not let slip a detailed forecast, although the odds this year identified as a possible date for the arrival in to the market of the Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices.
New rumor, the truth of which is still to be ascertained, would indicate a speeding up of development of devices for the launch by the end of 2012 and would establish China as the nation which will appear among the first to receive the device .
At this moment we presume that the recent rumors on credible road map prepared for the launch of Nokia Windows Phone 8. A rapid renewal of the current line-up, not upgradeable to the next release of WP, it is desirable and the importance of the Chinese market Nokia has been repeatedly highlighted.

The apparent verisimilitude of the picture just described will be refuted in practice in the weeks to come. The latest rumor, but from a source reliable enough, do not provide further details about technical specifications of the new device. The news of the possible release of Lumia WP8 by the end of 2012 is at least encouraging. A launch postponed to 2013 it could cripple a line-up, as is known, is potentially able to undergo the "Osborne effect" following the announcement of the new mobile platform from Microsoft.

Nokia Lumia 900 - T-Mobile will not sell the device in Germany for the inability to upgrade to WP8?

Posted by ~ Erch ~ on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 | 06:47

The events in the marketing of Nokia Lumia 900 in the German market by T-Mobile is back in the limelight because the media echo gave a statement officious telephone operator. The statement was issued by a member of the team T- Mobile and clarify the reasons for choosing not to start the deployment of Nokia Lumia 900 in Germany. A basis for the decision is the inability to update the new flagship of the Finnish manufacturer to Windows Phone 8 . Declarations of T-Mobile, as you might guess, have a scope that goes beyond the specific case, representing an unofficial confirmation of the impossibility of terminals Lumia update the next release of Microsoft's operating system. For the record, we point out that, after the release of the declaration, other members of the T-Mobile have made it clear that it is not an official statement, suggesting that the reasons which may lead to the choice of whether to market a device are many.
The declaration, from a few days ago, contains a phrase that apparently leaves no room for interpretation:
We will not take the Lumia 900 in our product range as it is not software-update-means clustering enabled. What That is if the new WP 8 Should the fourth quarter as of 2012, 'which will not be updated 900th Lumia Lumia not insert the 900 in our product portfolio since it is not upgradeable. This means that if the new WP8 were to be distributed in the last quarter of 2012, the Lumia 900 will not be updated
At present the only certainty is that T-Mobile does not release the Lumia 900. For reference, we note that another German mobile operator (O2) was of the opposite opinion, and has begun selling the Lumia 900 in Germany.
The suggestion is to wait for further confirmation that may come after the official launch of Windows Phone 8. Only after this event will be possible to trace with certainty the border between the terminals will be upgraded and those that will be forced to renounce the last version of the Microsoft operating system. We recall that the official position of Nokia does not confirm or deny the news of the distribution of the update to Windows Phone 8 for the line of smartphones Lumia.

Nokia acquires Scalado to enhance its Lumia line of Windows Phones

Posted by ~ Erch ~ on Thursday, June 14, 2012 | 02:47

Nokia, to cope with the media department of excellence offered by the competition (not that one of the Finnish is very bad), has decided to buy Scalado , a company that for nearly 10 years working with Nokia, HTC and BlackBerry.

Lately Scalado, just with BlackBerry, has worked to bring new multimedia functions to the department, in particular for what regards photos and videos. We all know that RIM is not going very well lately, so it is possible that Scalado has decided to surf safer waters (probably more profitable!) And rely to a world famous brand Nokia to enhance its brand.
In all probability, we see the first results of this acquisition with the new Windows Phone 8 devices. I'm curious to see the result of the new features offered by the excellent quality of PureView Scalado together, also on the line next Nokia Lumia smartphones.

Nokia - Planned actions aimed at sharpening its strategy and returning the company to profitable growth

Nokia once again speak to its audience and its investors with a new official statement that contains important updates on the business strategy that will characterize the coming months and new targets to be achieved to overcome the difficult situation. This is a very articulate statement that identifies the main area of focus is the strategy and indicates further measures to make it even more competitive production structure of the company. Not missing a reference to a renewal of the management and further staff reductions to be implemented by the end of 2012.
Nokia identifies three main areas on which we focus the new business strategy:
  • The investments will be directed in the new Lumia
  • smartphone line
  • Another area of investment will be represented by the platform for location services
  • Rounding out the picture of the main investments of Nokia feature phones that will contribute to the further step of evolution
Nokia has also clarified the objectives in the individual sectors of activity:
  • Lumia smartphones will be offered at prices more affordable and will continue to differentiate itself from other Windows Phone through the integration of new technologies and new software.
  • Location services will represent another important means of differentiation from competitive offerings of smartphones Lumia. The development of the City Lens app with Nokia will continue in parallel and we will try to extend the scope of use of technology developed by Nokia maps to generate new revenue
  • In the field of mobile phones Nokia will try to improve the competitiveness and profitability. Nokia aims to further develop the platform, S40 and S40, investing in key areas such as web browsing. The first results of the renewed strategy are visible with the new Nokia full touch Asha.
In the coming months changes will be made to the  production facilities :
  • Veranno reduced research and development projects, with the closure of plants in Ulm, Germany and Canada in Burnaby
  • Windows will close the plant in Salo in Finland
  • Will be intensified marketing and sales priorities in key markets
  • Disused activities that fall outside the core-business
The continuation of the restructuring will cost in terms of staff reductions that will be reduced by 10,000 units by the end of 2013.
This is a very complex strategy that involves measures in some cases very difficult, as mentioned cuts to personnel and facilities that were dedicated to research and development. It is hoped that all the measures just mentioned might be able to revive the company by the crisis that has gone on for many months.

Linus Torvalds - Nokia should have chosen Android

Posted by ~ Erch ~ on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 | 06:32

The name of Linus Torvalds will probably be familiar to users who appreciate the open source operating system Linux. The programmer of Finnish origin, in fact, was the first author of the Linux kernel and the proposed development of the platform. Torvalds, who lives in the United States, has recently returned to the homeland to receive the Millennium Technology Prize, and has not failed to reserve a little veiled criticism of one of the most important Finnish companies.
We speak of course of Nokia , Torvalds criticized for the choice of Windows Phone platform as the main point on which to try to regain lost market share in the smartphone market. According to Torvalds, Nokia would have to point to the Android operating system.

The critical Torvalds echoes what even the simplest of smartphone users have moved home to Finland in 2011 following agreement between Nokia and Microsoft. Torvalds points out, however, that the choice, however wrong, is understandable given that, at the time, the leadership is entrusted to Stephen Elop (are well known, in fact, passed between Redmond and 'current CEO of Nokia, which previously occupied the leadership positions at Microsoft).
According to Torvalds, choosing Android Nokia could intervene actively in the development of the platform that is rather reinforced and impervious to changes in the case of Windows Phone. Nokia allying with Windows would be a simple manufacturer bound by agreements of a commercial nature. For the record, we must emphasize that the exclusive app developed by Nokia for its Windows Phone and the announced changes to the software platform( integrating technology PureView ), to give Nokia a more important role than the other Microsoft partners.
The judgment of Torvalds obviously reflects his training geared to the open-source and his attitude quite critical of Microsoft. Despite the hatred dicharato smartphones, Torvalds normally uses a Android device that, not coincidentally shares many aspects with Linux. This judgment is therefore quite likely that expressed by Linus Torvalds on the choice of Nokia, however, will not be enough to change course at home in Finland.

Nokia Lumia PureView technology in development according to Chris Weber

The unofficial and official confirmation on the future integration of technology in Nokia PureView Lumia terminals were not lacking, but that we are going to bring the following can surely be considered one of the most important and unequivocal. In a recent interview Weber confirms the intention to transfer the technology into future Windows Phone PureView Lumia. As we know this is a feature now integrated into the Nokia 808 PureView based on Symbian Belle operating system and that took five years to reach fruition.
The confirmation of the future coming to market with technology of the Nokia Lumia PureView is contained in the following interview (minute 3:30 and following):
To make the choice fall on a Nokia device with Nokia operating system to use technology PureView on Symbian Belle were the limitations of the current Windows Phone platform that enables the necessary software customization required to handle the camera with 41 megapixel sensor have already seen in Nokia recently PureView 808. These restrictions, according to allegations made by Chris Weber, will be less in the future thanks to the special relations of cooperation between Nokia and Microsoft, of course, the Finnish manufacturer will allow you to customize the software of the camera.
The identity of future Windows Phone from Nokia continues to take shape over the months: dual-core processors, Windows Phone 8, PureView technology are just some of the possible innovations that could be introduced in the future production of the Nokia with the Microsoft made operating system .

More specifically, at the time, the countries for which is available on the update to Tango Navifirm include: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Singapore , Spain, Sweden, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand and Vietnam . There is still Italy, but remember that the list is not exhaustive.
The list of firmware dedicated to branded units by telephone operators further comprises:MobileOne Singapore, MTN ZA, Singapore SingTel, StarHub Singapore, Telenor DK, IT Vodafone, Vodafone Spain, Vodafone UK, Korea Freetel, Polkomtel PL, CH Swisscom, T-Mobile Vodafone UK and Portugal .

According to IDC Nokia has Shipped 2.2 Million Lumia Phones Last Quarter

Posted by ~ Erch ~ on Friday, June 8, 2012 | 08:09

IDC, the well-known company that conducts market research, has recently reported estimates of smartphones Lumia delivered in the period between January and March. These assessments, are coming from an authoritative source may submit to the inevitable margins of error, but are equally interesting, given that the Finnish manufacturer, when reporting the financial results for the first quarter of 2012 , had not specified the exact number of  sold Lumia devices.
According to IDC estimates, Nokia in the last quarter has delivered 2.2 million Lumia smartphones. We clarify that the estimates refer to the points "handed", in other words devices that reach store shelves, but that does not necessarily translate into actual copies sold to the end user.

Relating the alleged 2.2 million smartphones Lumia total number of smartphones sold in the first three months of the year (11.9 million units), you can see that the deliveries of the device Lumia are still marginal compared to the total number of Nokia smartphones, evidently still formed largely by terminals Symbian and Meego.
It must in any case make observations to utleriori. In the first three months of the marketing procedure of Lumia device was still in full swing and devices like the 610 had not yet disponbili Lumia. Secondly, the feedback of IDC leads to the conclusion not yet indicative of the results of first quarter sales. The company locates in the summer months and in general over the next two quarters is a favorable time to expand the installed base, is to begin to draw up budgets even more reliable.
The road of smartphones Lumia to establish itself in the smartphone market is still long and probably, as anticipated on several occasions by the former president of the company before year-end you can not get a clear picture of the results of the alliance between Nokia and Microsoft.

The AT&TNokia 900 Lumia is having good success in the US market even though there have been some small annoying bugs like purple screen for instance - In short, when the screen would dim down to "low" greys would become purple across the whole display, including on graphics and photos

Analysts checks confirms that the Nokia Lumia 900 continues to sell well in U.S.

Officially presented during the first months of 2012 , the new smartphone Nokia Lumia 900 ,a member of the famous family of Smartphones created highly successful collaboration between Nokia and Microsoft , is available on the market in various countries around the world for some time now.

The results recorded up to now have been positive for Nokia demonstrating the excellent reception received by this device evaluated positively by the international critics, but recently some items, at least for the American market, presaged some suffering resulting drop in sales of smartphones due to the launch of the HTC One X.
Well those rumors, at least according to tests carried out recently, seem to have been definitively refuted. James Faucette of Pacific Crest Securities , has decided to speak on the subject by focusing on results obtained recently by these devices. According Faucette, in fact, smartphones series Lumia , in the United States , showed results similar to those released last month showing that sales of these devices continue to govern without problems, probably also to the massive marketing campaign Nokia Lumia 900 that gave the benefits to other smartphones in the same family.

If these results were able to remain stable in America Devices Windows Phone could dramatically increase its market penetration. but we will have to wait for future updates to learn more .

A new infographic compares the costs of the components between Nokia Lumia 900 and iPhone 4S

Posted by ~ Erch ~ on Friday, June 1, 2012 | 12:03

In agreement with what had been reported by iSuppli , according to which the construction of the Nokia  Lumia 900 would cost $209 to Nokia, iSuppli proposed an interesting infographic that compares the economic value of the components of Lumia 900 and iPhone 4S .

As we previously reported, despite the Lumia has higher costs than the iPhone 4S, Windows Phone from Nokia is selling at about $ 200 less than the Apple smartphone. Moreover, among the various components, is very interesting that the cost of the Apple processor (Dual Core) are less than Qualcomm (Single Core) used by Nokia.

Nokia Lumia 610 more powerful than first generation Windows Phones

After having reported the number of applications not currently compatible with a thorough analysis of performance and functionality, we return to talk about today's Lumia 610 and its compartment hardware. Thanks to an article by András Velvárt, Silverlight MVP and developer of 3D Browser Surfcube, we have examined the performance of CPU, GPU and Memory of the Nokia Lumia 610.
The new entry level Nokia with 800Mhz processor and 256Mb of Ram, was subjected to comparisons with Lumia 800 with 1.4GHz processor and 512Mb of Ram, and LG Optimus 7 with 1 GHz processor and 512Mb of Ram.

As for the tests on the processor the developer decided to compare the timing of starting the application drawing of the stars of Lumia 610, LG Optimus 7, and Lumia 800  SDK emulator.
The report of this application have shown that with the increase of the elements to load the processor Lumia 610  has often approached the start-up time required by the LG's Optimus 7, ensuring all in all a good computing power.
The real surprise comes from the GPU performance. As can be seen in the table above, the Lumia 610 is able to obtain a good number of FramesPerSecond, quite easily surpassing the performance offered by the Windows Phone by LG!
The FPS in fact begin to fall on an Optimus 7 Fill Rate (parameter used to evaluate the performance of a video card) of only 2.5, revealed a critical point at 5. The Lumia 610 shows much more stable and efficient, arriving at the threshold of 30FPS with a Fill Rate to 8.5.
So, ignoring the fact that some applications are still running pretty slow, the real problem of Lumia 610 seems to be the volatile memory: the 90MB reserved for each application with the devices with 512Mb RAM, 60Mb of Lumia down to 610 . Fortunately, Microsoft Windows Phone Tango has worked extensively on Paging File, providing additional virtual memory for applications, but this technique can cause swapping On the same time because of delays to the system is increased the workload of the processor.
  • Paging File : To the memory of the physical RAM is the amount of virtual memory paging file, which is a file that the operating system created to simulate a larger amount of RAM.
Perhaps with further improvement of Frameworks SDK and things will greatly improve, but for now we can not help that the question asked yesterday would not have been better to choose 384MB of RAM?

The Nokia Lumia 900 and Lumia 610 heading to India in June?

Formally introduced earlier this year, were expected for several months in stores two new smartphones Lumia 610 and 900 created by Nokia in collaboration with Microsoft and characterized by interesting features and specifications that make them very promising two mobile devices.

In the past, much information has somehow left open the possibility of seeing these two devices to reach the Indian market, and new revelations, yet unconfirmed officially, back on ' argument once again. Portal Onlygizmos revealed information from an anonymous source reported that Nokia would be ready to launch two of its Lumia smartphones the Lumia 610 and Lumia 900 in the Indian market by mid-June, respectively, at a cost of 11,000 rupees and 28,000 rupees.

Considering that the mobile market in India is the second largest in the world after China , with a growing market especially in the increasingly popular smart phones, such a move could be very positive and important to Nokia and Microsoft , who would see it grow substantially in the sales results of these new smartphones.

To this we must also add that the prices reported by the anonymous source in question were not as high and therefore more competitive than before. not being available, however no official confirmation in this regard, the information being taken at the time as mere rumors. We await any official announcements.

Here is complete list of applications / games can not be used on all Windows Phones with 256 MB of RAM

Posted by ~ Erch ~ on Thursday, May 31, 2012 | 02:39

Nokia Lumia 610,the new entry level Nokia Windows Phone is still struggling with some apps and games that are not compatible with the desired specifications restricted by the low RAM amount.
So, after listing some of the titles are not compatible, we now offer the most accurate statistics of games and applications that are not (yet) supported by Windows Phone with 256MB of RAM (Lumia 610).
As was reported by a study AAWP, applications are not compatible with Windows Phone from 256Mb of RAM is 1,387, or 1, 6% of all those present in the Marketplace.Unfortunately, entering into in greater detail in this analysis, a good 25% of Xbox Live and a good 5% of the 10,000 applications downloaded by users do not support the Lumia 610.
AAWP also pointed out that among the new applications, compiled with the Windows Phone SDK 7.1.1, only 0.8% ( 250 ) do not support restricted to specific devices and Tango with 256Mb of RAM. It is therefore hoped that with each passing week of the Marketplace Lumia 610 may be increasingly rich applications.

Posted by ~ Erch ~ on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 | 06:37

As you can see from the chart above, the number of users who use Windows Phone Facebook is growing. The data comes directly from a research done by Microsoft and has been established that there are approximately 2 million monthly active users.
The data obtained are also due to strong sales of Nokia's Lumia Lumia 610 and 900, besides the fact that to sell well in Finland, are proving very popular elsewhere.
This could not only raise the number of Facebook users, but also improve the market share of Nokia. Are there in fact 4.2 million in sales for Q2 of 2012, slightly up from 3 million in sales in Q1.
Obviously in these results are not considered Windows Phone sold in China, because they do not have the full Facebook integration.
