Facebook for Windows Phone bumped to version 2.5

We have reported in April, that the Facebook team was working on Facebook app for Windows Phone version 2.5 and now after one month after, here comes the much needed update  that implements several new features and improvements. 

Facebook app v.2.5 has the following new features :

• Posts:  Ability to view all messages including those sent to groups, all with a beautiful graphic style Metro.
• Tagging:  Now you can tag your friends and position in the messages
• Deleting posts and comments:  You can hold your finger on an item, remove a post or a comment there.
• Active links in the messages:  You can tap the link in a message to go quickly to its content.
• Updates and comments to photos on pages that we put "like":  The comments on the photos and the pages have been updated, you can view a small portion of the image at the top of the page, simply pull it down to see everything.
• Like in the comments:  by popular demand is the amazing ability to select the "like" in the comments.

Facebook version 2.5 is free app and can be downloaded from the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Facebook added a feature to detect Android Application

Facebook introduced a new version of its Android application through which, besides the usual features, there is a channel for distribution of other integrated HTML5 Android applications. iOS version already has such functionality, which,according to Facebook, has helped mobile applications Pinterest, BranchOut and games like Diamond Dash and Words With Friends to get more traffic.


This means that users can discover applications directly through Facebook, via bookmarks, search or feed for the news. With "deep linking " developers them selves will determine where users end up after you click the link for the application.

Rumors - HTC and Facebook jointly developing Facebook branded smartphone

Facebook and HTC working on a unique product that will work on Android optimized to use all functionalities of Facebook, says DigiTimes citing sources from the mobile industry.

These are new rumors about Facebook phone that back in 2010 was rejected by network founder Mark Zakerberg. But it was two years ago when Facebook was not so focused on the impact and revenue from the mobile market, but the number of users were most important.

DigiTimes sources say that Facebook phone will appear in late 2012. Will be manufactured by HTC, who was the producer of the first Google Nexus phone.Now Google cooperates with Samsung which is the largest and most popular manufacturer of Android devices.

HTC has previous experience with Facebook branded phones. Taiwanese producer previously introduced Salsa and Chacha devices that have separate physical button that instantly guide users on Facebook. But these phones have not experienced any particular success.

Facebook for Android updated with new features and performance improvement

Facebook for Android has received new major upgrade, based on the reporting of multiple bugs found by users. Stability and performance in general have been further improved, corrected several errors and also implemented some new features in messaging.

• Improved performance and numerous bug fixes.
• New messaging features, such as the creation of group messages and adding friends to existing conversations.
• Shortcuts to share photos and messages directly from your home page.

Among the changes is precisely the ability to create group messages and add more friends in conversations already in progress and they are finally implemented a few shortcuts in your start pages to share pictures and messages.

Facebook buys Instagram for $1 Billion

Everyone’s favorite social photo sharing network, Instagram, has just been purchased by Facebook for a reported $1 billion. Instagram has put out the following statement, Facebook  announced this morning in a blog post.

Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook, posted about the transaction on his Timeline:

I'm excited to share the news that we've agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team will be joining Facebook.

For years, we've focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we'll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.

We believe these are different experiences that complement each other. But in order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram's strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook.

That's why we're committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people.

We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience. We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.

These and many other features are important parts of the Instagram experience and we understand that. We will try to learn from Instagram's experience to build similar features into our other products. Official Facebook app for Windows Phone has been update to version 2.3.The announcement had come directly from the official Windows Phone Facebook page.

Windows Phone Facebook app adds another 100,000 users, around 9 million WP7 users in the wild

As much as we’d all love to hear concrete figures that provide some insight to the amount of Windows Phones sold thus far, we sometimes have to rely on other indirect sources to gain that knowledge.

Although it’s not the actual tally of Windows Phones sold since its inception, we can kind of infer the amount by simply taking a peek at the amount of active Windows Phone Facebook users that are out there. From the looks of it all, there’s some progress made in the effort for Microsoft’s pride and joy platform.

Around half  a million Windows Phone users were added in the last 3 weeks, bringing the estimated total to around 8.5 to 9.5 million users.


Naturally, the trend seems to be on a positive note for Windows Phone as a whole, since it has continued to increase as far back as November of 2010 when the numbers were first recorded.

Windows Phone Tango (7.6): Integration of Skype and Google +?

Integration of Skype and Google is the one that comes with the next update of Windows Phone, at least according to the head PocketPC.ch , who claims to have received information from a very reliable source on the beta preview of Windows Phone Tango.

The build is tested 7.20.1050.5 , the authors state that the version of the operating system will switch to 7.6 , with the integration of Skype and perhaps a little 'surprise, Google +.

 "In this beta, the application of Skype and Google + is still quite experimental.Making calls with Skype does not work yet, but you can already use the Google chat and Skype +. It 'can still make video calls using the anterior chamber of the new Windows Phone smartphones. Then you can receive video calls and do them, though in this version we found some problems and crashes. There is still a chance to make video calls through Google + "

We can not confirm the veracity of the news, the only evidence that the site provided it is published in the screenshot above.  If so, the minor update called Tango will be very interesting, integrating two features that are sure to be very popular with users. 

Update x1:  PocketPC.ch site is a fake, in fact, comparing the characters of the written Google and Skype with the rest of the written notice a slight difference, which is impossible if it had been used the same formatting. It is not clear whether the published image from the site is just an image created by them to show the functionality, in this case these differences are obvious. If the site will respond to these concerns made by several of the field site, we'll update the article with new info.
